Tomorrow, the UK-India Free Trade Agreement comes into force.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at the UK India Leaders Conference in Parliament, organised by the Europe India Centre for Business & Industry (EICBI) and Water & Shark, alongside an outstanding panel including Sujit S. Nair, Harsh Patel, Dr David Bozward, Abhishek Tripathi, Harjot Singh, Lord Rami Ranger, Lord Kuldip Sahota and MP Navendu Mishra.
The discussions focused on one question: how do we turn a trade agreement into real economic growth?
For me, the answer is simple. It starts with people.
Before this agreement came into force, the IAB recognised that stronger UK-India trade would require a new generation of finance professionals equipped to work confidently across international markets.
That is why, in 2024, we developed the Certified International Accounting Professional (CIAP) qualification and established our partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (Government of India) and Veranda Learning.
CIAP is about far more than technical competence. It develops finance professionals with the cultural awareness, communication skills and international mindset needed to support businesses operating across borders.
I'm incredibly proud that our first CIAP graduates are already blazing the trail.
My hope is that they become the finance professionals who help underpin the next chapter of the UK-India relationship, turning opportunity into investment, trade and long term economic growth.
Sometimes qualifications don't just respond to change.
They help make it possible.

因此，我们于2024年开发了“注册国际会计师”（Certified International Accounting Professional，CIAP）资格，并与印度国家技能发展公司（印度政府机构）及 Veranda Learning 建立了合作伙伴关系。
CIAP所培养的远不只是专业技术能力。该课程致力于培养具备跨文化意识、良好沟通能力和国际化思维的财务专业人才，使他们能够支持企业开展跨境业务。
我感到无比自豪的是，我们首批CIAP毕业生已经开始开拓属于他们的道路。
我希望他们能够成为推动英国—印度关系迈向新篇章的财务专业人才，将新的机遇转化为投资、贸易以及长期经济增长。
有时候，专业资格不仅仅是为了回应变化。
它们也能够推动变化成为可能。
